Leah Michelle Zuckerman, born on March 9, 1976, passed away on January 15, 2024. She is survived by her loving husband Casey Diggs, her parents Kim and Harry Martens, her siblings: Sara Zuckerman (Ethan Washburn), Joshua Zuckerman, Michael Martens (Tito Dang), Jamie Martens, Isaac Widomski; brother-in-law Justin Diggs (Elaine Diggs); and nephew, Taj Washburn. Leah was preceded in death by her father, Robert Zuckerman, and her stepbrother, Nicholas Widomski. Leah had a deep passion for gardening, orchids, fishing, pottery, art, and animals. She especially loved her cherished Yorkie companion, Winston. She was a loving wife, a treasured daughter, a remarkable friend and dear to everyone she met. Leah was a happy person who made others joyful. Her smile was friendly and always caring. The void left by her passing will be deeply felt by all who knew and loved her.
Leah's childhood was shaped by living at Pinecrest Country Club in Shelton, CT and then at the Blackberry River Inn in Norfolk, CT. Leah attended Unquowa School, Indian Mountain School, Berkshire School and then moved to Amherst, MA, where she graduated from Amherst High School. Continuing her pursuit of creativity, she earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from the University of Massachusetts. In following her passion for jewelry, Leah relocated to the Raleigh Durham, NC area, where she became an apprentice jeweler at Goldworks.
In time, Leah played an instrumental role in the growth of Progressive Pools alongside her husband, Casey. They created a home that became a welcoming stop for old friends on their cross-country journeys, keeping in contact with so many from her past. Leah's open heart and warm hospitality transformed acquaintances into friends everywhere. Leah's memory will endure as a reminder of the power of kindness, the beauty of human connections, and the joy that can be found in embracing and celebrating one another.
Her family is hosting a Celebration of Life on Sunday, March 10, 2024, 11:00 am (with an online broadcast) at The Inn at Governors Club, Chapel Hill, NC. RSVP via text to Kim Martens: 770.330.9931 for gate entry.
